Cammo Estate is a place that enchants in all seasons. Located in the north-west outskirts of Edinburgh, it is an abandoned estate that was partly destroyed in fire, partly demolished.
Every time you visit it, you discover something new. I am particularly fond of the Cammo Tower, which used to be a water tower powered by wind. However, you want to think that it was a mysterious hideout or a folly tower…
Recent autumn walk with the Strollers did not disappoint. The route led from the old Cramond Brig by the river Almond through the estate and back. Magical…
This was a walk that I led, visiting a site in the nearby Dechmont.
The whole site is impressive, with massive beautiful buildings that are no longer used and fall into disrepair. From the information board it seems that they are planning to redevelop some of the buildings to convert them into flats and there will be also conservation area, which would be great.
At the moment, it is popular with dog walkers and thrill seekers.
The walk took us about 3 hours, was enjoyed by all of us and was really atmospheric with heavy clouds hanging above us.
